Displacement is going down, cylinders are disappearing, turbos are going on. Generally, cars are faster and more efficient, but what cars today would ultimately provide a better driving experience with a drivetrain from their maker's past?
I'd say the Huayra would probably be better with the Zonda R motor. And I think the 918 would likely be more exciting with the CGT v10.

Put a tuned/reliable version of the 3.4 litre V8 from my '97 SHO into the current SHO. You could probably get another 25 BHP out of that engine.
And I'm guessing the 918 is plenty exciting as-is.

Pretty sure a modern Corolla would be better with their older 4AGE 20V engine in it.

all 3 Super/Heavy Duty trucks swapped with their late 90's/early 00's engines

This in all of Mitsubishis entire lineup.
Except for the Evolution. Maybe.

I bet the Nissan Juke would've been pretty sweet with a late model SR20DET in it.

Probably lose the back seat with that one.

I almost did a 4AGE silver top swap from an AE111 in my '00 Corolla, but decided it wasn't worth the money. If I was going to drop that much on an engine swap I was gonna go all out an do a K-series swap. haha
I'd love to see a modern version of the 4-AGE blacktop with factory ITBs! 10 out of 10 would swap that into my FR-S.

DFV in modern F-1 cars. Wouldn't hurt the show.

ELR, Eldorado drivetrain with 472. Make that hybrid if you really gotta.

I'd be ok with that.

While not new anymore, the Audi R8 would be infinitely more awesome with the high-revving, high-strung turbocharged five-banger of old.

With This. Ideally throw in a hotter cam and some headers.

I just want this engine in a cheaper, non-hybrid, manual transmission package.
But yeah, that V10 screams...

As cool as that would be, a 300hp Northstar would probably be putting more power to the ground.

This. In a modern Z4 M (road legal version of the GT3 car).

Imagine how nice the 4.0 would be today with modern touches like DOHC, VVT, and direct injection.

Probably the front seat too! Or it would have to hang off the back about 2 feet.

Except GM, that would be terrible with the 6.5 or even the LB7. They do sound better though, I will give them that.

Now if they went back to the environmentally terrible, but amazing sounding 2-stroke Detroits, I'd be okay with that.

There since the beginning eh?
True story though, it is quite a rare breed. Even in SoCal i seldom run into another and i enjoy every minute of driving it!

Looks like it. I still get on M3Post fairly regularly, but I'm much more active over here.
Funny enough - there are three E90 M3s just in my parking garage here in Tulsa! They both have the DCT, though. Only a couple more in town, that I know of, anyway, and not sure if any are manual.
Currently trying to figure out our spring driving trip with friends from work. Not sure if I'll make it out to the track much this year - kind of in money-saving mode - but we'll see. Trying to convince my boss to do One Lap in his supercharged Z4 M!
